A Reminder To Myself

Child of awareness
Is exhausted
Journey of mind is infinite
If only I could have accumulated the mileage from this journey
      in samsaric realms
I would have two free tickets to nirvana by now.

This continuity of thoughts
If only I could be mindful
All the vivid experiences of kleshas
I would have gone home to my primordial rigpa by now.

Lucid beauty of six objects
So naked
Makes them utterly honest
If only I could just be present
I would have seen the buddha realm by now.

Enlightened beads threaded
Through the angel hair crown
Unique in rugged power
Genuinely shines in the hearts of samsara.

Hail, hail Karmapa!

Composed Sunday, August 23, 1998.
