One time, I asked my teacher, ‘”What is the qualification for being a teacher?” He thought for a while. I took out my notebook. I was going to list what he had to say. He only said one word: “Compassion.” That really struck me a lot because I thought that in order to be a teacher you had to be scholarly or something like that. But, he said: “Compassion.” It actually made a lot of sense later on, because just being a scholar or having a lot of wisdom or knowledge doesn’t really mean you become a good teacher in the end. I think compassion is the most important, as my teacher told me.
